Mercedes-AMG has retired the E43 saloon and replaced it with the new E53. The E43 went on sale a few years back and was positioned as an affordable, friendlier alternative to the bonkers E63.
However, the lower-spec E-Class super saloon now gets enhanced mechanicals and benefits from the same technology that was recently introduced in the all-new CLS53. At its heart lies a new electrified 3.0-litre engine featuring twin-turbocharging. This 6-cylinder, inline motor generates 429bhp and delivers maximum torque of 520Nm. For comparison, the E43 had a 3.0-litre V6 with 390bhp and the same torque output.
